Hiya! Just saw this event and thought I’d let you know Kent District Library is working on a similar (second annual and also free) event for aspiring authors on April 20 at our Cascade branch. I’d love to send you more info as I get it hammered down.
That would be great. Thanks Morgan!
Do we need to pre-register?
Pre-registration is not necessary. We just want to get an idea of how many people are coming so we set up the right number of chairs and such. Good question, Deb!
I will be bringing my 18 year old son who is writing his first novel.
Here are the details on Kent District Library’s free writers conference on April 20:
Kent District Library will host “Celebrate the Mitten” from 9 AM to 2:30 PM on Saturday, April 20, our second annual Michigan writers conference aimed at highlighting the state’s home-grown literary talent and encouraging new talent.
This free, half-day event, at the Cascade Township branch’s Wisner Center, features local publishing insiders and authors who will lead sessions on:
– How to market your book
– Out-of-the-box ways to make money as an author
– Traditional vs. self-publishing
– Children’s books
– Successful readings and book signings
– Copyediting and book design
– Susan Bays, publisher, Arbutus Press
– Jon Bradley, children’s book author
– John Forsberg, military science fiction author
– Cheri Hallwood, children’s book author and publisher
– Ryan Hipp, children’s book author and illustrator
– D.E. Johnson, historical mystery and crime fiction author
– Mardi Link, true crime author & memoirist
– Lisa Orchard, young adult fiction author

All genres and skill levels are welcome. Pre-registration is required and participant spots are limited. Non-KDL cardholders are welcome. To register, click here, ask for assistance at any KDL branch or call Patron Services at 784-2007. Breakout session signups begin at 8:30 AM.
I’m trying to reach Andy Rogers about a potential author gig at Kent District Library. Please have him contact me at email@example.com. Thank you!
Do you often get teenagers, or is this just for adult writers?
Everyone is welcome. Our youngest attendee was under 10 last time. We draw a good mix of school age and adults. You should come!
I just found out about Jot today, one day too late, obviously. When will the next one be? I would love to attend!
Hey, you should put the schedule for the night’s festivities online to i can reference it while listening
Just read today (3/14/15) post about Jot’s conference last night :-(! Would have loved to come. Please include me on your notification. Note itsaboutrelationships.wordpress.com is migrating to claireandrus.com as we speak! Thank You, Claire Andrus, or firstname.lastname@example.org, whichever is convenient.
How much does it cost, if anything, to attend a Jot conference?
Absolutely nothing. Jot is completely free. If someone tries to sell you a ticket, report them immediately to the authorities. That person is evil.
I am attending my first ever conference (Breathe) this week. I read ALL the speaker profiles and noticed two of the speakers are Jot Conference founders. Sorry, I have never heard of Jot before, but now that I have, when is the next one? What if I find out I really am supposed to be writing? Well, even if that’s not the direction I should go, I still want to know more about when I can get in on the next Jot Conference.
We’re in the planning stages for the next Jot, but it will probably be in March. Stay tuned for details!
We are considering live streaming a writers conference for the fist time. Can you tell us how was the participate for you live stream that you did last year? Any information would be helpful.
Sure! We’ll send you an email to follow up.
Andy (for the Jot team)
I was just told today you were hoping to connect with me for this event. I’d love to talk with you more about it. Thank you!
