A new book for writers will be released in the fall of 2017–and it’s born out of the Jot Writers’ Conference!
The book will be a collection of essays on writing from past and future Jot Writers’ Conference presenters. Though book titles often get changed multiple times during the publication process, the working title for this project is Jot That Down: Encouraging Essays for New Writers.
Here’s a summary of the book, taken straight from the book proposal:
Jot That Down is a collection of encouraging and practical essays for new writers. Through these brief, easy-to-read entries, readers will gain firsthand knowledge of numerous aspects of the writing life. Topics like how to get started, the essential elements of a book proposal, the basics of agenting—and everything in between—are covered by a group of seasoned writers, editors, and publishers. This collection is one-stop shopping for new writers seeking a “toolbox” to help them build a career in writing. It will also inform and encourage more experienced writers.
The contributors for Jot That Down include published fiction and nonfiction authors, journalists, literary agents, flash fiction writers, essayists, short story writers, and publishers. Each has been a speaker at the Jot Writers Conference (www.jotwritersconference.com), a biannual event for writers that fosters quality writing and networking among writers in West Michigan.
So there you have it! We’ll be talking more about this project at the upcoming Jot Writers’ Conference. If all goes well we’ll have it available for purchase at Jot #10 in the fall of 2017. (Yes! #10!!)
